Rife Machine Primer – How do Rife Machines work? Who was Royal Rife? What are the different types of Rife Machines?

How do Rife Machines Work?

Shattered wine glass

Rife machines work on the principle of RESONANCE which is very well known in physics. Everything in the physical universe has a natural resonant frequency which will cause it to vibrate. We’ve all seen videos where a singer can shatter a crystal glass if they produce just the right pitch, with a loud enough volume, for a long enough time. Here is an excellent video that not only demonstrates this effect but also does an excellent job of using slow motion to explain what is happening. Wine Glass Video . This video clearly shows the three factors necessary to produce this effect; 1) the right frequency, 2) enough power and 3) long enough exposure to allow the vibration in the glass to build up to the breaking point.

However, this effect isn’t limited to wine glasses. It exists to differing degrees in all physical object. The collapse of the Tacoma Narrows bridge in 1940 is perhaps the best-known example of the destructive power of natural resonance in structural engineering. This 8-minute video  Tocoma Bridge Collapse shows how the twin forces of natural resonance and wind induced vortexes (low pressure area) combined to cause the bridge to shake itself apart.  According to my college physics professor, this is also the reason why a group of soldiers who are marching in lock step will break cadence when crossing a bridge to avoid any possibility of natural resonance creating problems.  For more about this see: Soldiers Break Stride on Bridges

Like wine glasses, microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, etc.  also have a natural resonance frequency that will cause them to vibrate. Rife machines use this principle of natural resonance to cause microorganisms to vibrate long enough and hard enough to self-destruct.  Since the physical structure of each type of bacteria, virus, etc. is different, each type has its own unique resonant frequency. Thus, it is possible to kill one specific variety of microorganism without damaging any other organisms or the surrounding tissue.  This approach to killing harmful microorganisms was pioneered by a man named Raymond Royal Rife.

Who Was Royal Rife?

Dr. Royal Rife was a scientist, inventor and medical researcher in California in the early 1900’s.   His original claim to fame was the invention of a very powerful optical microscope that for the first time allowed scientist to see the tiniest of organisms like viruses in their living state.  With his microscope he became the first man to ever observe live viruses.  Rife received a total of 14  awards for his scientific discoveries and was awarded an honorary medical degree from the University of Heidelberg for his work in bacteriology. On November 20,1931 a dinner was given to honor Rife that was attended by 30 of the nation’s top physicians. Numerous articles were published in newspapers and scientific journals about his accomplishments. In 1944 the Annual Report of the Board of Regents of The Smithsonian Institution featured a story about Rife’s amazing microscope.

Rife began using his new microscope to explore the behavior of microorganisms. He discovered that each microorganism had a natural resonance frequency that would cause them to literally shake themselves apart much like the singer in the video above. He called this the MOR or the “Mortal Oscillatory Rate“. The trick was finding which Frequency or MOR was effective against which microorganism.

This modern day TEDx talk by Dr. Anthony Holland demonstrates the principle of using vibration to destroy microorganisms. In the video you can see an actual microscopic view of a microorganism rupturing and dying while the other nearby microorganisms of different types continue merrily about their business with no harm whatsoever. Although Dr. Holland avoids using the word “Rife” (probably to avoid backlash from the medical community) the technology he describes is Rife technology. He is in fact proving Rife’s theory that vibration can kill microorganisms.

Rife spent the next 40 years peering through his microscope while bombarding microorganisms with different frequencies to find the MOR frequencies for the different microorganisms. He also experimented on patients with their consent. Rife and his colleagues developed a series of 5

generations of machine over several decades. All of these systems used a plasma tube to transmit the MOR frequencies combined with radio frequencies (RF) that would penetrate the body to deliver the MOR frequencies. The early machines produced radio waves in the same portion of the frequency spectrum as AM radio stations.  The interference this caused for AM radios in the area caused the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)  to get involved. They forced Rife to stop using the AM band machines so he modified his design to use  higher frequency carriers. His later generation machines used a MOR frequency in the range of 0-40 KHz up to several hundred kilohertz to modulate an RF carrier that was in the area of 3 MHz.

Did Royal Rife Cure Cancer?

In 1934 Royal Rife conducted an experiment under the supervision of a Special Medical Research Committee of pathologists and oncologists from the University of Southern California (USC).  The 16 patients for the study came from the Pasadena County Hospital. Each had been pronounced terminally ill with stage 4 cancer.  During the 90-day period of the study, 14 of the patients were pronounced cancer free.  The two remaining patients subsequently received additional treatments and were pronounced cancer free.  Yes, you read that right, There was a 100% cure rate of the terminal cancer patients in the study either during or after the study!

Cancer wasn’t the only deadly disease Rife worked on. He once made the mistake of curing some patients in a TB clinic in San Diego. You would think that the doctors at the clinic would be happy that their patients were getting well. Instead they became very upset. Their egos were offended that someone using unconventional methods was having more success curing their patients than they were,  Plus when the patients got well, they stopped paying the doctors, which hurt their cash flow.  The doctors created enough of a stink that Rife and his machine were both kicked out of the clinic and the director of the clinic who had allowed the treatments was fired.

Persecution by the Medical Community

While it is undoubtedly true that the vast majority of doctors and medical professionals go into medicine  to help people and have the best interest of their patients at heart, it is also true that they are only human. They have spent years of their lives learning and absorbing the commonly accepted treatments and theories of their time. Their reputations, credibility and egos depend on them being right, so when something new comes along that does not fit their currently held beliefs there is a strong tendency to reject it without even giving it consideration. Then of course, there is substantial evidence that there are those in the industry who prioritize profits over the needs of patients. Just look at the recent meteoric rise in the price of EpiPens and insulin for confirmation.

In Rife’s day, it didn’t take long for the medical doctors, drug companies and their cronies in the government to get upset. He was actually curing people with incurable diseases, like cancer and TB. This threatened their egos and impacted their cash cow of treating sick people but never curing them. Not only that but his theories of the nature of microorganisms and disease differed from the prevailing theories of the time. Added to that was the efforts by the tyrannical head of the American Medical Association, a man named Morris Fishbein, to gain control of emerging medical breakthroughs for his own personal enrichment.

Morris Fishbein had a medical degree but he only interned for 6 months and never practiced medicine a day in his life, yet he became the head of the AMA. Fishbein first tried to coerce a large amount of money from Rife to promote his invention in the AMA Journal.  When that failed, he tried to force Rife to sign over the rights to his invention for an extended period of time until it could be “proven” to work. When that failed, he colluded with Rife’s engineer, Philip Hoyland, one of Rife’s business partners to file a suit to try to take control of the company.

The suit also failed but the damage had been done. The pressure of the trial and the grilling by the high-priced lawyers Fishbein paid for, took its toll on Rife who turned to alcohol to escape the pressure. He eventually died a penniless alcoholic.

The AMA Goes to War

After Hoyland lost the suit, the AMA went to war against Rife and his technology. They did everything in their power to discredit Rife and his research. They began threatening the medical licenses and careers of any doctor who supported Rife. His labs experienced a series of mysterious break-ins that resulted in equipment damage, stolen parts that disabled equipment and the theft or destruction of much of his documentation.

The final blow came when the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) raided his lab and seized all of the equipment and research. As a result of all the destruction to his lab equipment and notes, much of his research has been lost.  We only have a record of 18 of the MOR frequencies he discovered although it has been reported that he document at least 54. The vast majority of frequencies in use today were obtained by other methods: see  Where Do Rife Frequencies Come From?

Fishbein’s efforts to suppress any and all treatments that were outside of the AMA’s control were not limited to Rife. He made a career out of persecuting and ruining midwifes, Native American Healers, herbalists, natural healers, etc. basically anyone he could not control by threatening their medical license. His tactics were so egregious that he and the AMA were charged with violating the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. Fishbein was eventually convicted of racketeering. He died in 1976.

Why is Change Hard for Medical Experts?

The resistance to new ideas that challenge conventionally held beliefs and the resistance to change in the medical community was not unique to Rife.  Consider the treatment of Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis who reduced the death rate in the maternity ward of his hospital by 500% and was fired for his trouble. In 1846 Dr. Semmelweis started a new job in the maternity clinic at the Vienna General Hospital. The hospital had two maternity wards. One was staffed by doctors and medical students that catered to the wealthy patients. The other was staffed by midwives for lower income patients. He began to notice the death rates of new mothers was almost five times higher in the ward staffed by doctors than it was in the one staffed by midwives.

He began looking for differences between the two that might explain why so many more women were dying in the ward staffed by medical doctors.  The only major difference he could find was that the doctors performed autopsies and midwives didn’t. Furthermore, the doctors would frequently come from performing an autopsy to deliver a baby without washing their hands or changing clothes. He theorized that the doctors were carrying something on their person from the dead bodies to the new mothers that was causing them to get sick (This was prior to the medical community learning about the existence of germs and their role in disease).  He instituted a policy requiring all medical staff to start cleaning their hands and instruments before delivering babies.

The mortality rate in the hospital plummeted. You would think that the doctors would be thrilled that so many more of their patients were surviving child birth but they were not.  They were outraged at the suggestion that they were contributing to the death of their patients. Plus, they were annoyed at the foolishness of having to wash their hands all the time. They created such a fuss that Dr. Semmelweis was fired. The doctors then stopped washing their hands and the death rate shot back up. Dr. Semmelweis was eventually committed to an asylum where he died two weeks later.  Maternity Death Rates Drop

The Cure for Scurvy Overlooked for Three Centuries

There are many instances where the pride, arrogance and a fear of a damaged reputation blinded medical authorities to facts that contradicted their strongly held belief in their prevailing theories. Scurvy is a hideous disease that has plagued humanity for thousands of years. Throughout history it has brought agonizing death to millions. It has been estimated that at least two million sailors died from scurvy between 1500-1800 AD. Magellan lost 208 of his total crew of 230 primarily to scurvy.  Like cancer it causes agonizing suffering and eventual death. Today we know that scurvy is caused by a Vitamin C deficiency and that it can easily be cured in a matter of days with Vitamin C.

In 1536 French explorer Jacques Cartier was exploring the St. Lawrence River.  He had lost 25 men to scurvy and had another 40 who were gravely ill. The local natives came to his aid. They took leaves from a specific tree and boiled them in water to make a tea and gave it to the men to drink. All 40 were cured within a few days.

You would think that news of the amazing cure to a dreaded incurable disease would be hailed throughout the medical community but it was ignored. There were numerous other reports over time of similar miraculous recoveries from eating citrus, fresh vegetables and even certain types of meat.  These were also dismissed by the medical “experts”as just stories without any scientific basis. You see the medical experts of the time had their own widely accepted theory that scurvy had multiple causes including hard work, bad water and the consumption of salt meat in a damp atmosphere which inhibited healthful perspiration and normal excretion and that it required multiple solutions.

Eventually individual ship’s doctors and captains and leaders within the admiralty began doing their own experiments and devising dietary supplements for the crews.  These experiments produce such remarkable results that the “medical experts” were forces to begrudgingly accept that their theories were wrong.  However, it wasn’t until the late 1800’s, early 1900’s that Vitamin C became the universally accepted treatment for scurvy. That’s roughly 300 years of untold human misery and millions of deaths of innocent human beings that resulted from the close mindedness of the medical experts. Will the same thing be true for cancer today? For more details see: Scurvy

You would think that a 100% cure rate of 40 terminally ill sailors would be enough to break through bias of the medical experts so that they would at least investigate a potential cure before dismissing it out of hand. But then, you would also think that curing 100% of 16 terminally ill cancer patients would also get some positive attention and unbiased investigation.

The Evolution of Medical Science

Clearly medical science has progressed tremendously over the last several hundred years but that progress did not happen without the medical “experts” being forced to change many of their deeply held beliefs.  For example, it has actually only been about 220 years since the father of our country, George Washington, died in 1799. He died after being treated by his doctors using the commonly accepted medical treatment at the time of bloodletting.

Washington came down with some type of infection that caused swelling in the throat making it difficult for him to breath. The doctors of his day were convinced that inflammation could be reduced by removing blood. The treatment was to use leeches to suck out the blood or to cut the patient to drain blood. Over a period of 12 hours and multiple bloodletting session they removed approximately 40% of his blood supply. Whether this loss of blood was the actual cause of death or not is subject to debate. However, removing 40% of his oxygen carrying blood with infection fighting white blood cells when he was starving for air because of an infection certainly didn’t help him. See: The Role of Bloodletting in George Washington’s Death

Even today our understanding of the body and medical science continues to change when the medical community is open minded enough to accept new information. When I was diagnosed with high blood pressure several decades ago, I was strongly admonished to avoid salt because it had been “proven” that salt increased blood pressure. Now several decades later the medical experts have reversed themselves and concluded that salt has little if any effect on blood pressure.  For more about doctors today persisting in prescribing medications and performing procedures that have been proven ineffective see this article from The Atlantic.   Clearly progress is possible but only if the medical community is open minded enough to honestly evaluate ideas that differ from what they believe.

Small incremental changes that fit within the current world view of the medical community such as replacing an older medication with a newer medication is relatively easy. However big changes that require paradigm shifts in doctor’s understanding of disease and treatment and the willingness to consider new ideas and approaches is hard.  However there is hope.

Today Doctors routine use the principle of Resonance

The term MRI is short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.  Every time a doctor sends someone for a MRI they are ordering a test that uses Resonance. If they are willing to use Resonance for testing, perhaps that will begin to pry their minds open to to the idea of using Resonance for treatment. In addition, more and more pathogens today are becoming immune to antibiotics. As this trend continues will that be enough to force doctors to honestly consider using Rife as an alternative to save their patients lives or will they refuse to reexamine their beliefs,  standby and watch them die as the doctors once did with scurvy patients?

The Persecution of Rife Continues

The persecution of Royal Rife and his technology did not stop with his death in 1971. The persecution by the medical establishment has continued through today. They have done everything they can to discredit his research and his machines and to attack anyone who makes any claims about Rife Machines. That is why everyone involved in Rife technology make it very clear that they are not medical doctors and that they do not diagnose or treat illness. The AMA and the FDA can arrest and prosecute someone for practicing medicine without a license but they cannot prevent anyone from conducting their own medical experiments on themselves.

The manufacturer of one of the more popular systems used in the Rife world does not even label their product a “Rife Machine”. Their position is that they manufacture frequency generators that experimenters can use however they choose. If you want a Plasma tube system, they will sell you the frequency generator and an RF amplifier but you have to purchase the plasma tube itself (which makes it a functional Rife machine) from another company. The same thing is true of the printed manual that tells you how to operate the machine to product the frequencies commonly used for different pathogens and conditions.

Characteristics of a Rife Machine

In recent years there has been a major resurgence of interest in Rife’s work with companies and individuals building systems to mimic his original machines. To recreate a Rife machine like the ones Rife built you need three things:

1) An audio generator  to produce the MOR frequencies. The typical range of frequencies is up to 40,000 Hz although some go up to several hundred kilohertz.

2) An amplifier with the ability to combine the MOR frequencies from the audio generator with an RF carrier (typically ~3 MHz) and  then amplify the resulting signal to drive a plasma tube.

3) A plasma tube to output the power in the form of radio waves to penetrate the body and deliver the MOR frequencies. Plasma tubes also produce light but it is the radio waves that do the work.

In my opinion, any modern system that calls itself a “Rife machine” should have each of these three components in one form or another. To me, if they don’t, then they do not qualify as actual Rife machines.  Today there are many machines that call themselves Rife machines that do not use the same design approach that Royal Rife used. They take the principle that Rife discovered of using specific MOR frequencies to kill specific pathogens but they deliver those frequencies using a different method.

I’m not saying these methods don’t work. I’m just saying that the delivery methods they use are not the same as the method that Royal Rife used. It’s a little bit like the use of the word “coke”. If you offer someone a “coke,” are you offering them an actual Coca-Cola or are you offering them a generic soft drink? Many of these non-traditional Rife systems have been reported to produce good results for many people. The trouble is that we don’t have a generic term like “soft drink” to describe these non-traditional Rife systems, so people end up using the term “Rife machine” to refer to all of them.

Modern Day Validation of Rife’ Theories – The Doug Coil

In 1990 an inventor named Doug MacLean had become very ill with Lyme disease. He tried all of the conventional approved treatments for Lyme from the official medical community but nothing was effective in getting rid of his Lyme disease. At the time Doug was completely unaware of Royal Rife or his work. Someone mentioned to him that they had heard something about a guy in California using frequencies to destroy pathogens many years ago.

Without realizing it Doug duplicated Royal Rife’s approach and results. He purchased a high-power microscope that was strong enough to view the live bacteria that causes Lyme disease. He did not need a microscope as powerful as the one Rife built because bacteria are much larger and easier to see than viruses. He then obtained samples of the live bacteria from the CDC and began subjecting them to different frequencies by means of a small magnetic coil around the microscope.

Once he had proven the concept and identified the correct frequency to kill the bacteria, he built a larger machine with a large magnetic coil to treat himself. Using his machine, he was able to rid himself of Lyme disease. There are now multiple small manufacturers who build machine like the one Doug built or variations thereof. These machines are called Doug Coils or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) machines because they use a big electromagnet and a pulsating magnetic field to produce the vibration in the targeted microorganism. These are low frequency machines that typically only go to about 2,000 Hz.  To view an actual interview with Doug discussing his experience click here Interview with Doug MacLean

Other “Rife” Machines

There is a third type of “Rife” machine in popular use today that are known as Experimental Electro-Magnetic Machines. These machines are called EMEM for short although it seems it should actually be EEMM.  These machines use a plasma tube like the original Rife’s machine but they do not use an RF carrier. They also typically operate at lower frequencies of 10,000 hertz or less.

There is also a popular variation on the original Rife machine that uses the same two first stages of a signal generator and an RF carrier/amplifier but it uses handheld electrodes and foot plates to deliver the resulting signal in lieu of the plasma tube.

Then finally there are lower power devices known as “zappers” which have begun adding some of the frequencies used by Rife machines to target specific pathogens. For more details on this see:  Rife Machine vs Hulda Clark Zapper

Limitations of Rife Technology

The beauty of an actual Rife system is that the RF carrier allows the signal to penetrate the entire body, even hard to reach areas like the inside of organs, bones and the brain to destroy microorganisms. The downsides are:

1) You have to know the exact pathogen you are dealing with and the exact frequency that will cause that particular pathogen to resonate itself to death otherwise you are wasting your time.

2) When the pathogen dies it can release a number of toxins that can cause illness if the body is not able to eliminate them quickly enough.

This is called the Jarisch–Herxheimer reaction or Herx for short. Herx reactions are not unique to Rife. They can also be caused by antibiotics or anything else that causes a rapid die off of pathogens.   It can be very uncomfortable and in rare cases deadly. You have to be careful not to go too fast with killing things. You also need to have a good detox process in place or you can do more harm than good, particularly with people suffering from cancer or Lyme. For more information on the importance of detoxing when using a Rife machine see: Detoxing to Reduce Herx

Using Rife to Improve Health

When Rife first invented his machine, it was designed only for killing pathogens. In recent times many people have begun to experiment with using Rife technology to see if it would help detoxify or strengthen the function of various organs and systems. There is no theoretical basis that I’m aware of, to explain why or how this works but there is a lot of experimental results to support that it does.

Conclusion

In the world of science, Truth is determined by the Scientific Method. A scientist develops a hypothesis or theory. He or she then devises an experiment to test if the hypothesis is true or false. If that is successful, the third and most crucial step is repeat-ability / independent validation. For any theory to be considered proven the experiment which validates the theory must be able to be repeated by other scientist doing the same experiment is different locations with different instruments and getting the same results.

In the case of Rife’s theory that microorganisms can be killed by exposing them to a specific frequency that matches their natural resonant frequency, Rife validated it with his experiments in the early 1900’s. It has now been proven by not one but two different experimenters in modern times.  Doug MacLean and Dr. Holland repeated essentially the same experiment separated by great distances and decades of time from Dr. Rife’s original experiments and got the same results. For any honest, open-minded scientist this would be considered proof that Rife’s theory is valid.

The only real question that remains is how effectively can this principle that has been proven in the lab be translated into killing microorganisms inside a human body. Sadly, most of Dr. Rife’s research notes have been lost or destroyed and although a few of his machines remain, we don’t really know how they were used and operated. Nor do we have a research lab with high powered microscopes to document the MOR frequencies for all of the pathogens we are dealing with today.  Some people have tried to recreate his machine as accurately as possible using modern components. Others have built different types of machines that deliver frequencies to the body in different ways. We may never be able to completely duplicated Dr. Rife’s success rates but we do have capable tools to try.
