The Patristic Project started out from a desire to provide updated bibliographic data on topics and theologians in Patristic Studies. In the last century Quasten published a masterful multi-volume book Patrology, in which he outlined the basic tenents of Greek and Latin Patristic author's theology and works and added a bibliography for further study. Such a helpful tool becomes outdated quite quickly after publication, and so the Patristic Project developed to bridge the gap by creating a virtual bibliography for research that updates as new publications come out. Our emphasis on updated research soon branched out into other topics in Patristic research such as liturgy and biblical exegesis.

We want to create a website that is collaborative, where scholars can adopt a theologian or topic to keep the research date updated. Patristic Studies is an immense field, and the collaborative dimension to the project became an essential component.

In the spirit of research access, another goal of the Patristic Project is to offer organized access to original texts and contemporary translations of them. Beyond the offering of bibliographic data and research tools, the Patristic Project also aims to include electronic media such as podcasts of conference presentations to make it a 21st century research portal to the ancient world of the Church Fathers. So, if you are a scholar or student who would like to join the Patristic Project, please contact us at: patristicproject@gmail.com
